Kicking off Week 1 Semester 2

So we've had a bit of a break, been to Adelaide and back, and haven't quite received all our marks yet, but we're still ready to get stuck back into it. A meeting time for this session is still being decided. If you are keen to get involved HELP US PICK A TIME! We hope you can make it but if not don't feel left out, there are lots of other activities and campaigns you can still get involved in:

1. Session 2 Meeting Time
In case you haven't done so already, pick a meeting time that suits you on this online poll:  http://www.doodle.com/26yy8ksmbzmiutq9 .
Since the meeting wont be until Tuesday at the earliest, we will announce a time by the end of Monday - stay tuned!

2. Rally in support of NTEU action: 12pm on Tuesday on the Science Lawn
There will be a rally on Tuesday to support the lecturers that have been taking industrial action. This event has been organised to show that students are behind the staff and will support them in the fight for quality education. Speakers will include Susan Price - President of the NTEU UNSW branch, John Kaye - Greens MP, former NTEU member at UNSW and current NSW Greens spokesperson for education, and if you need further inducement there also will be a free BBQ. 3. Welcome Back Day (Tuesday)
The Enviro Collective will have a stall at Welcome Back Day on Tuesday from around 9.30, come say hi and have a chat or send us a note at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you'd like to come help out.

4. Sustainability office on facebook
If you haven't done so already check out the UNSW Sustainability Office's facebook page. Its a great place to keep up to date with what the uni is up to and their newest initiatives. Why not throw in your 2 cents at the same time? If you like it, or you don't - speak out!

5. Forests film night: Friday 23rd, 6.30pm at The Workshop - 16 Sloan St, Newtown
New films, info, wine, and food. This is a fundraiser for the Gunns Triabunna 13 - Tasmanian forest activists facing a civil lawsuit from logging company Gunns Limited. Come along to see new films on the Tassie forest campaign and talks by defendents in the ongoing Gunns 13 Trial. Donation entry

6. Competition: video for climate change
Do you see yourself as a budding film maker? Here you can put those skills to use and be in the running for an attractive prize. 7. Plastic Bags
The MCA wants your plastic bags and Marrickville Council want you to help get rid of plastic bags...
  • In the Balance: Art for a Changing World is the MCA’s upcoming exhibition and features artworks that look at the environment.  The MCA is collecting the following for 2 artworks and needs your help! They need:
    • Used white or clear plastic bags. They need 3000 – keep them coming!
    • Clear plastic, square sliced cheese containers,
    • Large, 2 or 3 litre clear plastic bottles (rinsed). These need to be clean, without holes and plastic bags without logos.

       Where to deposit:  please leave your items at the information desk on level 1          of the MCA.
  • Marrickville Council want volunteers for plastic bag program. Bagbusters is Marrickville Council’s award-winning environmental education program aimed to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags. The Bagbusters team is looking for enthusiastic volunteers! Volunteering for this innovative program is a fantastic opportunity to promote change to improve the environment, gain insight into the environmental sector of local government, and actively engage with the public. Volunteer hours are negotiable and volunteers will be covered under Marrickville Council’s insurance policy.

8. Enviro Film Festival (Thursday - Saturday)
Over 3 big nights from 6.30pm Thursday July 22 - Saturday July 24 @ the Resistance Centre 23 Abercrombie St, Chippendale.
Films featured are The Yes Men Fix The World (Thursday), The Legacy of the Exxon Valdez (Friday) and Food Inc (Saturday). More about the movies:  http://www.greenleft.org.au/events/44611
