Benefits of the centre
What is UNSW, ARC and the Environment Collective doing to minimise environmental impacts?
By sending unwanted stationery to the Stationery Reuse Centre we are:
- Reducing hundreds of kilograms of perfectly good stationery being sent to landfill.
- Assisting staff and students to obtain free stationery.
- Reducing the extraction of raw material and the impacts associated with the production and distribution of new stationery.
In one year more than 500 students and staff visited the Stationery Reuse Centre claiming more than $20,000 worth of stationery including boxes of computer paper, folders, 2 ring binders, and over 6500 reusable envelopes.
History of the centre
- In 2000 the UNSW Environment Unit opened a Stationery Reuse Centre. As of 2005, responsibility for operational management of the Stationery Reuse Centre was transferred to the Student Environment Collective via the Student Guild now known as the SRC (Student Representative Council within ARC).
